Group Descriptions - Competitive

W1 (7 - 9 years old)

This is our entry competitive level. Swimmers will have graduated out Jr. Goldfins Program and be introduced to competition and racing experiences.

Target Group: Swimmers aged 8-10 who are performing beyond the Jr. Goldfins program in competition and in practice.

Outcome Goals: Introduction of longer races, build positive relationships with teammates, advance all 4 strokes, to see the value of hard and consistent work.

Mental Skills: "Just do it", go and give it your best shot.

W2 (10 - 11 years old)

W3 (9 - 11 years old)

This is our third competitive level. Swimmers will start looking to qualify for Jr. Provincials and for Manitoba/Saskatchewan Championships.

Target Group: Swimmers aged 9-11 who are performing beyond the White 2 program in competition and in practice.

Outcome Goals: introduce longer swims in training, to become a role model through action, to test skills under load, to set and be part of attaining group/TEAM goals.

Mental Skills: setting technical goals for each practice and race.

B1 (10 - 12 years old)

 

This is our fourth competitive level. Swimmers will start to attend 3-4 day invitationals in addition to attending Jr. Provincials, Manitoba/Saskatchewan Championships and out of province competitions.

Target Group: Swimmers aged 10-12 who are performing beyond the White 3 program in competition and in practice.

Outcome Goals: to become an "all round swimmers", to race long distance and Individual Medley, learn the process of training towards a peak meet, to communicate with your coach.

Mental Skills: Goal setting progressively from meet to meet (self-reflection).

B2 (12 - 14 years old)

 

This is our fifth competitive level. Swimmers will attend 3-4 day invitationals in addition to attending Jr. Provincials, Manitoba/Saskatchewan Championships and out of province competitions.

Target Group: Swimmers aged 12-14 who are performing beyond the Blue 12 program in competition and in practice.

Outcome Goals: to race all events, to improve distance swims in training, to build a positive view of self, introduction to leadership opportunities.

B3 (15 - 18 years old)

 

This is our first high school competitive level, allowing for swimmers to choose 5x/week or 7x/week depending on outside of swimming activity levels. Swimmers will attend 3-4 day invitationals in addition to attending Jr. Provincials, Manitoba/Saskatchewan Championships and out of province meets.

B18(a) is swimming 5x/week             

B18(b) is swimming 7x/week

Target Group: Swimmers aged 15-18 who are performing beyond the Blue 14 program in competition and in practice.

Outcome Goals: continued improvement in training and competition, convert to a best stroke/race, to allow for outside of swimming activities, have in season and peak season expectations.

Mental Skills: Creating an "Ideal" Performance State.

Outcome Goals: to develop an athletes lifestyle (sleep/nutrition), to lead through example, to communicate with the coach, to have in season and peak season meet expectations.

This is our second high school competitive level. Swimmers will attend 3-4 day invitationals in addition to attending Jr. Provincials, Manitoba/Saskatchewan Championships, out of province competitions and look to qualify for national level meets.

Target Group: Swimmers aged 14-16 who are performing beyond the Gold 14/Blue 18 program in competition and in practice.

Outcome Goals: to enhance an athletes lifestyle (sleep/nutrition), to lead through example at competitions, sprint training introduced at this stage, to have in season and peak season meet expectations.

Mental Skills: Getting to an "Ideal" Performance State at big meets.

G3 Provincial (16 & Over)

 

 

This is our third high school competitive level. Swimmers will attend 3-4 day invitationals in addition to attending Jr. Provincials, Manitoba/Saskatchewan Championships, out of province competitions and national level meets.

Target Group: Swimmers aged 16+ , who are performing beyond the Gold 16 program in competition and in practice.

Outcome Goals: to introduce specialization, to use in season meets as benchmark testing, development of sprint training at coaches discretion, be ready for and have a desire for varsity swimming.

Varsity (18 & Over)

 

A program for Goldfins members swimming outside of Saskatoon and attending University.  Swimmers will be able to participate in training during holidays and will be supported with a training group May-July.

$300 non-refundable registration fee due September 15

$345/4-week block

  • no pro-rating
  • 30-day withdrawal policy
  • does not include Dryland training with CSS

Available training blocks for 2025:

  • April 28 - May 24
  • May 26 - June 21
  • June 23 - July 19
  • July 21 - August 16

Auto enrolment for April 28 unless notice received by April 1, 2025.


Swimfit (13 - 20 years old)

 

The Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club is now offering a swim fitness group designed for those swimmers looking for less commitment than our other competitive options while still training with a qualified professional coach in a community of committed and inclusive athletes.  Swimmers that will benefit from this program and current and past Goldfins swimmers, lifeguards looking to improve their swimming skills and/or athletes from the other aquatic sports looking to improve their fitness (ie: artistic swimming and or water polo).  Swimmers looking to stay in the water through the winter are welcome to join Goldfins SwimFit!

Outcome Goals
To foster a love of swimming and help athlete transition from competitive swimming into being fit for life.  For new members, the outcome will be to grow a love of swimming in a positive manner that will give them a sport for life.

Who

  1. Current and former Goldfins swimmers 13 & over.
  2. Aquatic athletes looking for endurance and speed training (artistic swimming, water polo)
  3. Lifeguards or anyone looking to improve their swimming to become a lifeguard
  4. Triathletes
