Goldfins Excel at JP Fiset Invitational with Record-Breaking Performances

The Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club is celebrating an exceptional performance at the 2025 JP Fiset Invitational, held from December 11th to 14th in Edmonton, Alberta. This prestigious December championship saw 20 Goldfins swimmers participating, each showcasing remarkable talent and determination.
Among the standout athletes was Abigail Gauld, who had an extraordinary meet. Abigail set two new club records in the Female 11–12 Short Course category. She improved her own 50M Breaststroke record, achieving an impressive time of 35.49 seconds, a record she had previously set at the Spooktacular Goldfins Invitational in October 2025. More notably, she shattered the longstanding 100M Breaststroke record, which had stood since March 2014, with a new time of 1:18.75, earning her a gold medal. Abigail's consistent performance resulted in 100% personal bests across her events, with six podium finishes. Her exceptional achievements have also secured her a place at the inaugural Best of the West – Western Canadian Championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba, set for April 2026, having met the qualifying standards in both the 100M and 200M Breaststroke (2:51.97).

In addition to Abigail's achievements, Aliyah Aubut also earned recognition by claiming the bronze in the 100M Backstroke with a time of 1:13.58. The club's top performers in terms of points were Abigail Gauld with 107 points, followed by Aliyah Aubut with 66 points and Piper Lejbak with 44 points.
The Goldfins collectively achieved 56 personal best short course times, highlighting the dedication and hard work of all swimmers. Notably, the top three most improved events included Abigail Gauld's 400 Freestyle with a 5.6% improvement, Carson Sereda-Wosminity's 200 Freestyle with a 4.1% enhancement, and Landon Kennedy's 800 Freestyle with a 3.8% improvement.

Furthermore, the club celebrated the posting of seven new qualifying time standards for the Best of the West Championships by swimmers Abigail Gauld (100 & 200 Breaststroke), Fares Alkhatib (400 Individual Medley), Josh Block (200 Fly), Hadley Hollick (400 Individual Medley), and Atticus Mowat (400 Individual Medley, 200 Fly).
The Goldfins Swim Club extends heartfelt gratitude to Rick Godbout and Ryan Lejbak for their exemplary support and care of the team throughout the weekend. Appreciation is also due to Olympian Swimming for their role in hosting this successful event.
