Goldfins Excel at Cougars/Bisons Dual #1 Swim Meet

Regina, SK – The Saskatoon Goldfins senior swimmers made a remarkable splash at the Cougars/Bisons Dual #1 Swim Meet, held on October 11 and 12, 2025, marking a triumphant season opener. The Goldfins demonstrated their prowess and determination, with 17 swimmers collectively achieving an impressive 42 personal bests.
Head Coach Steven Hitchings expressed his satisfaction with the weekend’s outcomes, highlighting the significance of participating in a varsity-level competition. “Engaging with high-level competition is essential for honing our athletes’ skills and fostering their competitive spirit,” stated Hitchings. He emphasized the dual meet as not only a showcase for talent but also a vital opportunity for team bonding. Beyond the pool, activities at the Activate entertainment centre and shared meals have fortified the team’s camaraderie, a key component of their collective growth.
This season opener serves as an essential stepping stone towards the upcoming Spooktacular Goldfins Invitational 49. Coach Hitchings is confident that the insights and experiences gained during this meet will be instrumental in preparing the team for the challenges that lie ahead.

Among the standout performances, notable improvements were seen in:
Landon Kennedy, with a remarkable 21.3% improvement in the 100M Individual Medley, cutting 17.88 seconds off his previous time.
Kian Wu, achieving a 10.3% improvement in the same event, reducing his time by 7.18 seconds.
James DeLathouwer, who excelled in the 50M Breaststroke with a 9.6% improvement, shaving off 3.51 seconds.
The Goldfins extend their gratitude to the Regina Optimist Dolphins Swim Club for hosting this event and to the dedicated Goldfins parents who served as officials throughout the meet. The team eagerly anticipates their next challenge at the Spooktacular Goldfins Invitational 49, scheduled for October 24 to 26, 2025.
